From 1485 to 1689, England transformed itself from a minor feudal state to the first modern European society, and emerged as the wealthiest and most powerful nation in the world. This course explores epidemics and famines, invasions, two civil wars, violent religious reformations, and confrontations with two of the most powerful monarchs in Europe, Louis XIV of France and Philip II of Spain.

Prerequisites: 45 credits of 100-level or higher coursework including 3 credits of 100-level or higher HIST
