This course examines the history and development of French cinema from the first films of Lumière brothers in 1895 to contemporary French filmmakers. Using a chronological and thematic framework, the course will analyze films from the major directors and movements of French filmaking.

Prerequisites: 45 credits of 100-level coursework or higher

Notes:
  • Advance level in French, both written and oral, as the course will be entirely taught in French. FREN 270 and 271 recommended.
