Imagine a place where you can make a difference. A path to innovation, empowerment and potential. A journey of meaningful engagement within industry, community, and around the world. Inspired. Empowered. Ready.

Why study business at Capilano University?

A business degree is one of the most versatile qualifications you can earn, creating opportunities across all sectors of the economy. You'll build strengths in critical thinking, leadership and teamwork and hone your communication skills.

At CapU's School of Business you’ll receive a thorough and practical business education with a focus on the interdependence of business and society. You’ll be able to make a difference in your future organization, your community or even through your own business.

You can choose to specialize in an industry-driven concentration or build your own skill set through our general BBA. Concentration choices include:

  • Accounting
  • Business Information Management and Analytics
  • Financial Planning
  • Human Resources
  • International Business and Logistics
  • Marketing

You’ll learn in small-sized classes led by instructors with real-world experience, diving in to case studies and real-life problem solving, with additional opportunities to gain experience through clubs, competitions, internships, work experience terms, study abroad and field schools.

Student outcomes assessment is a threshold standard for ACBSP accreditation and an integral part of the quality assurance initiatives in the Capilano School of Business. Visit our Student Outcomes page to learn more.

Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) accreditation focuses on recognizing teaching excellence, determining student learning outcomes, and a continuous improvement model. CapU programs in the School of Business are ACBSP accredited.

Further your education

We offer a range of certificate, diploma and bachelor programs along with post-graduate programs.

Many of our programs ladder from one to the next. After completing each level, you may enter directly into the next level program to gain additional qualifications – or you may opt to go straight into the workplace. The choice is yours.

School of Business Purpose

To inspire and empower a new generation of business leaders, entrepreneurs, and life-long learners. Equip them with relevant, practice-based business skills and transformational learning experiences. Ready them to be bold, build exciting futures and change the world.

School of Business programs

CapU's School of Business offers a range of choices at both the undergraduate and post-graduate levels.

Undergraduate programs

You can apply directly to complete a four-year bachelor degree, or you may choose to ladder into the program from a one-year certificate or two-year diploma in Business Administration.

Post-graduate programs

Already have a degree and looking for a post-graduate program? Check out our post-baccalaureate programs.

Our North American Business Management programs are designed to give international students and new Canadians an in-depth knowledge of the North American business management culture.

Minors

We also offer a Minor in Business Administration for students who are interested in adding key business concepts to their bachelor's degree.

Accreditation

Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) accreditation focuses on recognizing teaching excellence, determining student learning outcomes, and a continuous improvement model.

ACBSP’s student-centered teaching and learning approach, which is measured and analyzed for quality, ensures that students gain the right skills from their educational investment.

Institutions with programs accredited by ACBSP are committed to continuous improvement that ensures their business program will give students the skills employers want.

The following business programs at Capilano University are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs:

  • Bachelor of Business Administration
  • Bachelor of Business Administration - Accounting Concentration
  • Bachelor of Business Administration - Marketing Concentration
  • Bachelor of Business Administration - Human Resources Concentration
  • Bachelor of Business Administration - Financial Planning Concentration
  • Bachelor of Business Administration - International Business and Logistics Concentration
  • Business Administration Diploma

Student opportunities

Join an association, enter a case competition or study abroad – and enrich your education while you do. Looking for ways you can gain work experience during your academic program or once you graduate? You'll find that here too.

Valuable work experience

CapU Business students can get hands-on experience in the workplace as part of their program. Through our new internship (part-time) and work experience terms (full-time, similar to a co-op), as well as our long-standing practicum programs, our students solve real world problems, engage in professional experiences and contribute to local businesses and communities – all while earning academic credit.

CapU also welcomes experienced learners seeking to continue their education. With our Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) process, you can earn academic credit towards your degree based upon your past work experience.

The Career Development Centre offers regular workshops on topics such as job search skills, building a strong cover letter and resume, and how to interview.

You won’t just learn about business here, you'll also develop the skills to help start your career. The professional team at the CDC is there to assist you as you move into the professional world. Explore full-time job opportunities for students on CapU’s Employment page.

Business student associations and clubs

Joining a student association or club gives you an opportunity to connect with your peers and forge relationships, and to learn and meet industry leaders through organized networking and social events.

Students can apply the skills learned in class, develop leadership skills or pursue aspects of business you haven’t covered yet in class.

Getting involved with CapU’s business student clubs and associations means you’re building your network right from the get-go — and having fun while you’re at it.

Current associations and clubs

Case competitions

Participating in an intercollegiate competition is a memorable and rewarding experience. Competitions often provide the most hands-on, realistic simulations of what it would be like to take on a specific role in a business.

Case competitions are also an opportunity to meet and interact with the companies associated with the competition as you progress through each stage. This is a unique networking experience where you may have the opportunity to gather feedback on the work you’ve done on the case.

Competitions are often run by employers who are seeking enthusiastic and driven candidates, either for internships or full-time, entry-level positions. You can also earn academic credit for participating through our specialised course, BADM 350 Business Competitions.

With CapU’s experience and expertise in the field, you too can become part of a winning team!

Study abroad

Expand your horizons, see the world from a new perspective, learn about a new culture and grow as an individual. You can do all this while studying abroad.

Besides enhancing your resume, studying abroad shows that you embrace diversity and have the confidence to try something new — setting you apart in an increasingly global job market. Plus, students who study abroad make international friends, get to see the world and have a lot of fun.

Visit the Study Abroad page to learn about CapU's programs.

Student resources

The School of Business offers many student events and resources to ensure our students' success in business. Networking events like Creating Connections give you a chance to develop your skills and grow your network. Student business cards are available to order through the department (email busadmin@capilanou.ca for details).

Our business instructors are available for regular coaching hours. Students get the chance to discuss course questions and receive support from the faculty teaching them.

Additional learning support is available for all CapU students. Check out the Learning Support – an area for all students to grow in confidence as they master course material and build new skills. Our specialized support centres include:
