New Student Orientation happens before the start of each term.
At Orientation, you have the opportunity to:
- Meet CapU staff and faculty who are here to teach, coach and guide you.
- Learn about academic and student support services available to you.
- Explore campus life, athletics, student clubs, social events and more.
- Attend workshops aimed to help you do well in class and adjust as a student.
- Make friends with other new and returning students.
- Have fun and make your first CapU memories!

All New Students Orientation Kick-Off
December 19 from 10–11:30 a.m. — Virtual
Start your Journey at CapU with our All New Students Orientation Kick-Off session, where you'll learn about campus culture and resources from CapU staff and student leaders. This live interactive session will not be recorded.
This session is mandatory for all new students. A link to access the session will be sent out in advance.
International Student Orientation
December 20 from 8:30–10:30 a.m. — Virtual
The International Student Orientation covers student basics, study permits, health insurance, and more. If you are an international student who is still uncertain about your travel plans or study permit status, we still recommend you register for this orientation so you can learn about what to expect as a new CapU student.
This session is mandatory for all new international students. A link to access the session will be sent out in advance.
All New Students Welcome Fair
January 3 from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. — On campus
On the first day of the semester, we welcome you to visit us in the Birch Cafeteria on the North Vancouver Campus for our Welcome Fair. This is a great opportunity to meet other new students, learn about all the services available to you on campus and enjoy free food. Here you will be able to pick up your new student welcome bag and get familiar with the campus.
Student Affairs Open House
January 9 from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. — On campus
Meet your student affairs team! Student Affairs will be opening up their offices to meet and greet with new and returning students. Visit our offices in Library 116 to learn about all the services that Student Affairs offers and all the ways that you can get involved with CapU Student Life.

The first six weeks... and then there are midterm exams and assignments. You are new, and a lot is coming at you.
Do you want to know the academic 'must dos' to be on the way to a successful term? Join us for a week-by-week overview of what to pay attention to.

Join us for an exciting current student panel. An opportunity to hear from your peers about their student experiences during their first week of school, tips & tricks for navigating campus life, and how they've built their community so far at university.

Preparing for your post-secondary education can feel complicated, but figuring out how to pay for it doesn't have to be.
In this virtual workshop, you will meet with a Financial Aid Advisor who will provide you with a roadmap of available financial options to help you get started on creating your own educational financial plan.

Have you been told to cite your sources for an assignment? Not sure where to start? This free Zoom webinar is for you.
Join the CapU Library and learn the basics of citing. Participants will practice creating a reference list or works cited citations, and learn strategies to confidently cite any source in APA or MLA.

Are you an International Student ready to learn about your new life in Canada? Come to this workshop, in which we talk about all the essentials: health care, SIN number, taxes and benefits, finding a job and pathways to Permanent Residency.
This workshop is provided by the North Shore Multicultural Society, a social service organization helping newcomers to Canada.
