2024/2025 FSG applications are now closed

Due to funding capacity, we can no longer accept FSG applications for our programs.

The StrongerBC future skills grant (FSG) provides funding to British Columbians aged 19 or older – regardless of financial need – and covers up to $3,500 in eligible short-term skills training at public post-secondary institutions.

The StrongerBC future skills grant provides funding for:

  • tuition;
  • mandatory fees; and
  • required textbooks and supplies.

To be eligible for the StrongerBC future skills grant, you:

  • Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Protected Person entitled to study in Canada
  • Must be a B.C. resident and currently living in B.C.
  • Must be 19 years of age or older or have graduated from high school by the start of the program
  • Must provide consent for Capilano University to disclose learner information to the Province
  • Should not be receiving duplicative and/or overlapping funding to cover eligible costs (i.e. grants, loans, scholarships, or other funding that covers the same program costs as the StrongerBC future skills grant
  • Must begin your studies during the Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 intake of the program

You should also understand that:

  • Submitting an application does not automatically guarantee funding. Funding is subject to availability.
  • The grant is subject to a lifetime maximum of $3,500
  • StrongerBC future skills grant benefits may have tax implications
  • If you are receiving any federal or provincial benefit, such as Employment Insurance (EI) or BC Employment Assistance (BCEA), you must seek approval from the appropriate government body before participating in a program
  • The amount of funding you receive is subject to review and audit
  • The grant applies only to programs that start between September 1 and March 31
  • You must complete your program within 52 weeks (1 year) from the program start date
  1. Apply to an eligible program at CapU
    Check the admissions requirements of the FSG-eligible programs and prepare your supporting documentation. Once you are ready, submit an application through EducationPlannerBC (EPBC) by paying the applicable application fee. You will receive a welcome email from admissions, including myCapU account login instructions and your CapU student ID.
  2. Apply for the StrongerBC future skills grant
    Complete and submit the online application through the new FSG system using your BC Services Card Account.
  3. Register into courses for your eligible FSG program

  4. Receiving your eligibility notification
    Financial Aid & Awards will email you a notification informing you if you are eligible for FSG. If you are eligible, your funds will not be paid yet; however, a fee deferral will be placed on your account for that term.
    After the add/drop deadline, Financial Aid & Awards will:
    • Verify your course registration,
    • Apply your FSG funds based on your eligible costs; and
    • Send you an email notification with details of your approval.
    Note: If you are approved for and receive FSG, the application fee will be refunded.

To receive the grant for your required textbooks and supplies:

  1. Be approved for the FSG;
  2. Purchase the items; and
  3. Email your receipts to finaid@capilanou.ca by January 17, 2025

Submissions are subject to review and approval.

Note: The Financial Aid office must receive receipts before your FSG is applied to your CapU student account.
