Contest Rules

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY

The Capilano University Alumni Reconnect Contest (the "Contest") is sponsored by Capilano University (CapU).

By entering the contest, you unconditionally and irrevocably agree to be bound by these rules, so read them carefully before entering. Among other things, these rules include a limitation of your legal rights and remedies.

  1. Contest Period

    The Contest begins at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time on September 8, 2026 and closes at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on October 27, 2026 ("Contest Period").

  2. Eligibility

    The Contest is open to individuals who:

    • Are legal residents of British Columbia;
    • Are at least 19 years of age at the time of entry;
    • Are members of the CUAA as defined in the CUAA Constitution and Bylaws; and
    • Complete an eligible entry during the Contest Period.

    Employees of Capilano University and any individuals involved in the administration of this Prize draw, and members of their immediate families or households, are not eligible to enter or win.

    The Contest is void where prohibited by law.

  3. How to Enter

    To receive one entry into the draw, alum must:

    Visit the landing page during the contest period and complete and submit the alumni contract update form with updated and confirmed contact information, including a non-Capilano University email address. This is an automatic entry into the draw.

  4. Prize

    One winner will receive the following or similar prize at CapU’s discretion:

    • $500 President’s Choice gift card
    • $250 Petro Canada gift card
    • $150 JJ Bean Coffee Roasters (or coffee gift card of winner’s choice)
    • $100 SportChek gift card

    CapU reserves the right to substitute the prize, or a portion thereof, with a prize of equal or greater value if necessary. The “gift card” may be physical or electronic.

    The prize is non-transferable, non-refundable, and has no cash value except as required by law.

  5. Winner Selection

    A random draw will be conducted on or about October 28, 2026, in North Vancouver, British Columbia, from all eligible entries received during the Contest Period.

    The selected entrant will be contacted using the information provided in their submission.

  6. Claiming the Prize

    To be declared the winner, the selected entrant must:

    • Correctly answer, without assistance, a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question;
    • Confirm compliance with these Official Rules; and
    • Sign and return any required declaration or release forms within seven days of notification.

    If the selected entrant cannot be contacted, fails to respond within seven days, answers the skill-testing question incorrectly, or is otherwise ineligible, CapU may select another eligible entrant.

    CapU reserves the right to verify alumni status. Entries that cannot be verified or do not meet eligibility criteria may be disqualified.

  7. Odds of Winning

    Odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received.

  8. Privacy

    Personal information collected for this Contest will be used by Capilano University to administer the Contest, update alumni records, and communicate with participants in accordance with Capilano University's Privacy Policy and applicable privacy legislation.

    Participants may unsubscribe from promotional communications at any time; however, doing so will not affect their eligibility for this Contest if their entry was received during the Contest Period.

  9. General Conditions

    By entering, participants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and all decisions of CapU, which are final.

    CapU reserves the right to cancel, suspend, or modify the Contest if fraud, technical failures, or any other factor beyond its reasonable control impairs the integrity or proper administration of the Contest.

    CapU is not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, misdirected, or technically corrupted entries.

    CapU may cancel or modify the prize draw if necessary. CapU may disqualify any entry that appears to manipulate the process or violate the rules.

  10. Limitation of Liability

    By entering, participants release and hold harmless Capilano University, its governors, employees, agents, and representatives from any liability arising from participation in the Contest or acceptance or use of the prize, except where prohibited by law.

    All decisions of CapU concerning the Contest are final. By entering the contest, each entrant hereby expressly releases each of CapU, the prize suppliers, their affiliates and CapU’s board of governors and each of their respective directors, officers, employees, agents, advisors, representatives and contractors and each of their respective successors and assigns (collectively the "releasees") from any and all damage, cost loss, expense and liability suffered or incurred by the entrant arising from the entrant's participation in the contest including personal injury, illness, death, or damage to or loss of property.

    Notwithstanding anything to the contrary herein, in no event will the releasees be liable to an entrant for any indirect, incidental, consequential or punitive damages, including damages for pure economic loss, and in no event will the total aggregate liability of the releasees to any entrant exceed the lesser of: (i) the direct damages suffered or incurred by such person; or (ii) the sum of ten Canadian dollars ($10.00 cdn), regardless of the cause of action, including contract (including fundamental breach), tort (including negligence) or strict liability.

  11. Governing Law

    The Contest is governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the applicable laws of Canada.
