Funding for International Students

Eligible new international students can receive a tuition reduction of CAD $150 per credit when enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester (typically 4 courses).

Award Value

• CAD $1,800 per semester for 12.00 credits
• CAD $150 per credit for any additional registered credits
• Up to CAD $18,000 total for a four-year degree program

Select diplomas, associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, post-baccalaureate diplomas in fields including Business, Arts & Sciences, Interdisciplinary Studies, Communications and Tourism.

Initial Eligibility

Students must:

• Be admitted for Fall 2026 or Spring 2027
• Be paying international student tuition fees
• Be a CapU credential seeking student (non-short-term visiting student)
• Have an admissions GPA of 2.50 or higher in required courses as determined by CapU’s admission assessment
• Register in 12.00 or more credits*

Continuing Eligibility

To continue receiving the award each term, students must:

• Maintain a 3.50 term GPA
• Stay enrolled in 12.00 or more credits*
  

*except for cohort-based post-baccalaureate diploma programs.

Qualifying Deadlines
Fall 2026 term

• Complete application to CapU by June 12, 2026
• Pay Tuition Deposit by June 26, 2026
• Register by July 30, 2026

Spring 2027 term

• Complete application to CapU by September 30, 2026
• Pay Tuition Deposit by Oct 15, 2026
• Register by November 30, 2026

Additional Notes

• Eligible students will receive award details in their offer letter.
• Eligible students will automatically receive the award once course registration is confirmed.
• Tuition fees will be automatically adjusted before payment deadlines.
• Students still qualify for the award with fewer than 12.00 credits in a term if required by their cohort-based post-baccalaureate program or are in their final term before graduation.
• Students who lose eligibility may re-qualify by earning a 3.50 GPA in a future semester.
• Eligibility ends when:
• the student is not registered for two consecutive semesters, or
• the student changes programs, or
• the program is completed.

Scholarships are merit-based awards that recognize academic. Bursaries are given based on financial need. Awards may be given based on a combination of top marks, athletic achievement, extra-curricular activities or other special achievements, and sometimes are based on financial need.

Step 1. Search the online awards guide

Use our online awards guide to find a full list of the scholarships, bursaries, and awards offered through Capilano University.

Awards are available for both new and returning students. Select the "International Students" filter in the award category field to find the ones you may be eligible for.

Step 2. Apply online

You apply for many awards and scholarships through your myCapU account. Follow the steps to apply as a new student or a returning or continuing student.

Step 3. Complete Additional Documents

There are awards available to support students who demonstrate leadership, engagement in their community and on campus, commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, and commitment to gender and women's issues. All of our additional documents are available on the new student or returning or continuing student webpages.

External awards are offered by organizations and associations outside of Capilano University. While each award is different, some are open to international students.

Loans and grants offered by the Canadian or provincial governments are only available to Canadian citizens, Permanent Residents, and Landed Immigrants.

If there is a student loan provider in your home country, contact them directly for information about the loan options that may be available to you.

US direct loans

Capilano University has deferment-only status with the US Direct Loan program. Students with previous US federal student loans may be eligible to retain their interest-free status or defer loan payments while studying at CapU. Ask your loan provider for the deferment request form and submit it to Financial Aid and Awards for processing for each term. Your form will be processed within five business days and forwarded to your loan provider.

Capilano University is not designated by the US Department of Education as an eligible foreign school to receive Title IV funding. For this reason we can't process Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) applications for new loans under the William D. Ford Direct Loan program.

Private student loans

CapU's Financial Aid and Awards office supports the administration of private loan certification for US students (SallieMae Loans). Contact us for more details.
