Please note that capVPN can't be set up and used on campus, only off campus.

If you have capVPN installed and have upgraded to Sierra (10.12), capVPN may stop working. Please download and install a newer version by following the instructions below.

Accessing capVPN for the first time

  1. On your computer, go to the capVPN website while off campus.

  2. Fill out the Name and Password fields and click Login.

    Name: firstnamelastname (where firstnamelastname is your Capilano University username)
    Password: Your Capilano University password 



  3. On the next screen, click Download Mac 32/64 bit GlobalProtect agent



  4. When the download completes, locate GlobalProtect.pkg file in your Downloads folder and run it by double-clicking.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install GlobalProtect software. 

  6. Once the installation is complete, GlobalProtect will start and you will see the globe icon in your Menu Bar (top-right corner of your screen).
    GlobalProtect will also open the Settings window the first time it runs.

  7. Enable Palo Alto Networks as a trusted developer.
    1. Launch System Preferences
    2. Open the Security & Privacy preferences and then select General
    3. Click the lock icon on the bottom left of the window to make changes and modify preferences
    4. When prompted, enter your Mac User Name and Password and then Unlock the preferences
    5. Click "Allow" next to the message "System software from developer "Palo Alto Networks" was blocked from loading."
  8. In the Home window, enter capvpn.capilanou.ca in the Portal field and click Connect



  9. In the "GlobalProtect Login" window, fill out the Username and Password fields and click Connect.

    Username: cds\firstnamelastname (where firstnamelastname is your Capilano University username)
    Password: Your Capilano University password 



  10. Status will change to Connected if successful. 



  11. Close the GlobalProtect window. You are now connected to capVPN and can access internal only resources.

  12. Please remember to disconnect from capVPN when you no longer need access to internal only resources.
    You can disconnect by clicking the GlobalProtect globe icon in your Menu Bar (top-right corner of your screen) and then clicking Disconnect

Accessing capVPN after the first time

  1. Click the GlobalProtect icon in your Menu Bar (top-right corner of your screen). 



  2. Click Connect.

  3. After a few seconds, the GlobalProtect icon will be in Connected status.
