The Arts and Entertainment Management department offers two programs of study: a one-year Advanced certificate and a two-year diploma. Both programs offer classroom and experiential learning in the business side of the arts and entertainment industry to prepare students for a career in this dynamic sector.
Our programs provide students with a well-rounded and thorough education in all aspects of the industry. Course work includes artist and tour management, marketing, resource development, production, financial management as well as box office and audience services coordination.
Practicum work placements are an essential part of these programs. Students cultivate relationships within the arts and entertainment community by working for professional organizations such as artist management and record companies, theatre companies, dance organizations, performing arts venues and festivals.
The Arts and Entertainment Management programs uniquely blend course work with hands on training and afford students the opportunity to customize the program to meet their career objective. The program is uniquely suited to those students with an entrepreneurial spirit and a strong passion for arts and entertainment.
Past placements have included Live Nation, Time + Works, Arts Club Theatre, Rumble Productions, Coastal Jazz and Blues Society, Studio Cloud 30, VIFF, Vancouver Civic Theatres, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Grand Ole Opry, Yukon Arts Centre, Nettwerk Records, and many more. Our graduates have found employment with Cirque du Soleil, Vancouver East Cultural Centre, Vancouver Folk Music Festival, 604 Records, DOXA and Bard on the Beach, to name just a few.
"The Capilano University Arts and Entertainment Management Diploma Program gave me a broad understanding of everything from arts administration to artist management. Classes were engaging, course work was hands-on, and the small class size really allowed me to make connections with my teachers and with my classmates. Thanks to the diversity of the classes, I discovered new interests, leading to employment in both the non-profit and for-profit arts world, and I continue to use the knowledge and skills that I learned from this program in my arts-related career. The practicum placement offered an invaluable experience, allowing me to pursue my dreams and travel to another province. I credit the Arts and Entertainment Management Diploma Program for giving me a leg up on the competition, and for opening countless doors within the industry."
