Bio

Currently a dance and movement instructor for CapU's Musical Theatre and Acting Programs, Keri Minty (BA, Simon Fraser University, 2003) also teaches, performs and choreographs throughout Metro Vancouver.

Choreography highlights include Sea of Stories (Peninsula Productions), Oliver!, Joseph (Theatre Under the Stars), A New Brain (Pipedream Ovation Award for Best Choreography), Anne of Green Gables, Cabaret, Secret Garden, Hello Dolly (CapU Theatre) and Arts Club's Red Rock Diner (assistant director/choreographer).

Performance highlights include dance captain/featured ensemble in White Christmas, Agnes Gypsy!, Mrs. Simpson in Singing in the Rain (all Arts Club), Sheila in A Chorus Line (Royal City) and Hero Tapper in the 2010 Olympic Opening Ceremony.

Minty was also a long time member of professional tap group The Urban Tap Squad and a founding member and past president of West Coast Tap.

I believe that, as Martha Graham stated, "movement never lies." Across all disciplines, from movement to ballet to tap, it is my endeavour to connect students to their own personal authentic movement and to cultivate a mind/body connection. We do this by exploring physical limits, breaking down various techniques, learning about habits and finding the most efficient way to get the greatest effect. The ultimate goal is to be able to have a flexible and resilient mind and body, that will be able to adapt to the varied styles and needs of physical theatre.

As a performer, choreographer and instructor, my interests and training are vast. Aside from continuing voice and dance training, my most recent studies have been with master dance teachers through the reTreat dance teachers conference in 2018.

I also have been continuing formalized Bartinieff/Laban Movement Analysis training with Donna Redlick, LMA. I believe that actively evolving my knowledge across fields is essential for personal growth and for a more complete understanding of approaches to teaching, creating and performing theatre.
