Bio

Heidi Wilkinson went from Douglas College to the Banff Centre for the Arts and stayed there for 2 seasons. She has been the Head of Props for Bard on the Beach since 1998 and is also currently the Head of Props for the Vancouver Opera. WIlkinson has also worked in every major theatre company in Vancouver as either a head of props, a scenic painter, a puppet/mask creator or set designer.

Wilkinson has worked as a specialty builder on several films and tv series. Selected shows include Dirk Gentley, Project Blue Book, Man in the High Castle, Fifty Shades of Gray, Lucifer, Turkey Hollow, Magicians, Smallville, Red Riding Hood, Battle in Seattle, The Whispers, Super Buddies, 13th Warrior, Cold Squad. She did both production design and art direction for Two Story Productions Scout the Mouse and the Gumboot Kids on Kids CBC. She was also the Production Designer for the Smarty Pantz Escape Room chain.

I love what I do. I'm constantly inspired by the amount of research that my job requires, as it's important to adhere to the appropriate moment in history that each show is settled in. I enjoy learning about new materials and experimenting with various techniques for building or designing purposes.

My teaching methodology reflects this. I bring a lot of that passion in to my lectures and demonstrations. My classes are very hands-on and while I do introduce my students to a large variety of building and design skills, I encourage them to try experimenting on their own. I believe that we can learn just as much from our mistakes as our successes and my students know that my classroom is the safe place to take those creative risks.
