Updated December 21, 2021

Dear CapU Community,

Aligned with the Provincial Health Orders issued on December 20 and the further restrictions in place as of December 22, we will continue to monitor the changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic. There is much that we will learn in the next few weeks, and we will adjust as necessary to maintain a consistent approach with the health authorities and the Province to support the continuity of in-person learning.

As we come to the end of the Fall 2021 term, I would like to share with you our plans for the delivery of instruction and services in the New Year.

Considering the high rate of vaccination against COVID-19 in the CapU community, particularly amongst 18—29 year olds; the very low rate of positive case counts at CapU; and the success of our proactive and ongoing hygiene and safety practices, we are satisfied the current measures we have in place are appropriate to continue into the Spring Term. With this in mind, we are looking forward to delivering 70% of CapU courses and programming in-person (63% in-person; 7% mixed mode), with 30% of our offerings provided remotely.

We will continue to monitor the changing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic and adjust as necessary to maintain a consistent and aligned approach with the direction of health authorities and the Province. We are listening closely to input and requests from across the University community and I believe that as we become more confident and experienced in living with the COVID-19 virus, we will be able turn our attentions to areas where we can safely adjust our practices to further enrich learning experiences and service delivery. As always, we will communicate any changes as we go along.

Lastly, I would like to say how deeply grateful we are for your individual contributions to co-creating safe and successful experiences for everyone in this challenging year. Although our pandemic context continues to evolve, I believe we will see a growing sense of revitalization and collective connection at CapU in 2022. I wish you all the best as you prepare to complete the Fall 2021 term and on through the holidays.

Sincerely,

Toran Savjord
VP Strategic Planning, Assessment & Institutional Effectiveness
