Good morning, Capilano University community.

This is a sorrowful day for everyone touched by the tragedy that occurred at the Lynn Valley Library in North Vancouver on Saturday afternoon.

In sombre recognition of this heartbreaking event, at 1:20 p.m. this afternoon, I encourage everyone in our community to pause for a moment of silence. Wherever you are, whatever you may be engaged in, I hope that you will rise in quiet reflection and respect for the victims, their families and their friends. As well, we are and will be, thinking of the witnesses, first responders, law enforcement officers, health care providers and volunteers for their courageous and caring actions.

Although many of us are working and learning remotely at this time, our main campus is a vital part of the community of North Vancouver. The hurt and sadness that we feel now has come home to us all in different ways. Should you require support, someone to talk to or assistance for a family member who is struggling at this difficult time, counselling services are available to students and CapU employees.

Together in this moment,

Paul
