Tord Gustavsen Trio
Pianist’s Scandinavian band performs impressionistic jazz inspired by blues, gospel and folk.
Norwegian pianist and composer Tord Gustavsen is on a constant search for honest beauty in his music. With each of his performances and recordings, he strives to deliver a holy trinity of qualities: elegance, emotional intensity, and meditative sound.
During a concert within the stunning Christ Church Cathedral, Gustavsen’s trio will perform music from its latest record, Seeing. Featuring percussionist Jarle Vespestad and bassist–electronics manipulator Steiner Raknes, the album brims with innovative approaches to sound and technique.
The three musicians combine their talents to create intricately textured improvisations and understated melodic hooks. The trio draws its sound from Scandinavian folk music, weaving it with jazz, blues, gospel, and church songs. Audience members can expect Gustavsen—who has released 10 albums to date—to bring spiritual depth and intimacy to the stage.
