Information and guidance on filing an appeal or complaint.

The Office of Student Affairs provides information about the appeal policy and procedures and complaint processes to all CapU students.

We’re available to help you understand your rights, responsibilities, and options. We can also help you ensure that the process is completed and directed to the right department or contact.

Appeals

Students have the right to challenge – or appeal – decisions and outcomes related to academic, disciplinary or administrative matters. There are different appeals available to students based on their situation or circumstances.

If you would like to appeal a decision from a department, service, faculty or staff member, the Student Rights & Responsibilities Advisor in the Office of Student Affairs can provide you with information about appeal processes, deadlines and assist you in understanding University policy and procedures.

The Student Rights and Responsibilities Advisor is available by appointment during regular office hours, Monday to Friday from 9 to 4 p.m. Contact studentconduct@capilanou.ca to book an appointment.

If you need help submitting an appeal or advocacy support, such as form preparation or someone to accompany you at meetings, reach out to the Capilano Students’ Union (CSU) Student Rights Office. To contact the CSU, please email info@csu.bc.ca.

Complaints

CapU recognizes that students may not always be happy with all of their campus experiences.

If you have concerns or complaints about another student’s conduct, please email studentconduct@capilanou.ca to book an appointment with the Student Rights and Responsibilities Advisor. They will provide information about your rights and explore your options for resolution and/or submitting a complaint.

Student Affairs does not resolve complaints against staff and faculty members. However, Student Affairs does offer guidance about the appropriate complaint pathways and people to contact.

For specific mediation or conflict resolution services unrelated to Student Code of Conduct complaints, please see the Conflict Resolution Advisor.
