Beyond the Solo—Be the Bridge answers this question by exploring how voices come together in different ways, sometimes singing the same notes, sometimes layering different notes, and sometimes weaving independent lines that interact. Choir singing is a lens for understanding community, collaboration and shared purpose. Through musical demonstrations, storytelling and reflection, this interactive presentation teaches us how individual voices can remain distinct while contributing to a unified sound, offering clear insights for connection in everyday life.
No musical experience is needed, and all are invited to learn how patterns of music can inspire a more connected, inclusive and harmonious world—one voice and one layer at a time.
About the speaker
Hussein Janmohamed (PhD) is a choral conductor, composer and educator whose work reflects one simple idea: when diverse voices come together, they can carry lessons we need in life. Born to South Asian, Kenyan, Ismaili Muslim roots and trained in Western classical music, he creates innovative works and facilitates ensembles that celebrate difference and connection. His leadership and research in choral music have earned fellowships and recognition for inspiring creative and inclusive practice. He holds advanced degrees in music and has led innovative intercultural projects around the world. Through his “#BeTheBridge” method, Janmohamed shows how distinct voices can come together to model cooperation and belonging, inviting audiences to experience how music can help us build stronger, more connected communities.
