Lamia Yared;

Lebanon-born, Montreal-based singer, oud player and musical director Lamia Yared specializes in traditional Arabic, Turkish-Ottoman and Sephardic repertoires. She has trained with renowned masters in Lebanon, Turkey, and Greece, honing her technique of Eastern chant and oud playing. Her most recent album, 2022’s extraordinary Ottoman Splendours, unearths poetry and melodies that would once have enthralled Ottoman-era rulers and courtiers.

Yared founded Ensemble Zaman in 2014, which revived rare early repertoire of the Levant region, covering classical Turkish music to Arabic chants. Yared’s first album under her own name, Chants des trois cours, featuring a septet, was released in 2020 to high praise. She has captivated audiences in festivals across Canada and around the world.

For this concert, Yared will be accompanied by Montreal-based cellist Sheila Hannigan and percussionist Hamin Honari, and Vancouver's François Houle on clarinet and Gordon Grdina on guitar and oud.

Presented in partnership with Vancouver International Jazz Festival, Festival d'ete and Le Centre Culturel Francophone Vancouver.
