Abigail Lapell
Folk musician recalls Canadian troubadours Joni Mitchell and Gordon Lightfoot.
Toronto-based singer-songwriter Abigail Lapell has been compared to iconic artists like Joni Mitchell and Gordon Lightfoot. Over the past five years and four spellbinding albums, Lapell has garnered two Canadian Folk Music Awards and accrued a staggering 40 million Spotify streams, while touring widely across Canada, the U.S. and Europe.
This spring, Lapell will release her new album Anniversary, an evocative collection of original love songs. Producer Great Lake Swimmers’ Tony Dekker helped shape the sessions’ spooky, resonant sound and lent his voice to a couple of spellbinding duets. Balancing upbeat earworms with elegiac ballads, Anniversary features a stellar cast of musicians rounding out Lapell’s powerhouse vocals, piano, harmonica and fingerstyle guitar. The ensemble’s sensitive orchestral country-jazz arrangements feature bass, drums, viola, trumpet and pedal steel along with harpsichord and organ.
Expect to hear some of these new tunes for the first time when Lapell performs here with her band.
