Bio
I have spent the last 25 years working in recreation mainly in the field of youth, health and fitness, sports and facility operations. My love for vibrant communities tied in well with my educational pursuit of a Masters in Leadership from Royal Roads University.
I have a passion for community building and community health. This is evidenced by my experience leading community events, recreation programming, and facilitation of educational workshops and in-services. I’ve worked to align services and include the most vulnerable in programs making inclusive spaces and places for all to feel welcome.
I am devoted to sharing my experiences to help College and University students excel once they graduate. This is highlighted by my work with the Langara Recreation Studies Department and Capilano University’s school of Kinesiology.
I enjoy facilitating, presenting and am confident speaking to large groups of people. Recent presentations include, Master of Ceremonies for BCRPA’s Empower YOUth conference, ‘Empowering Unconventional Thinking to Solve Complex Problems through Design Thinking’, BCRPA Symposium and ‘Communication, Customer Service and Culture’ with the District of West Vancouver.
I'm a wife, a lifelong scholar-practitioner and a busy mother of two teenagers. I love to ski, hike and spin, but my favourite activity is rugby!
I have been teaching since 2022 and split my time evenly between teaching in Recreation and Kinesiology.
I am developing a research proposal that explores how arts-based programming delivered by municipalities in social housing can reduce social isolation among seniors.
