Gain the skills to become a financial planner with training in the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Financial Planning at Capilano University.
A good financial planner can make a huge difference in your financial future, whether it's helping manage investments, pensions, insurance, or planning your estate.
In this 18-month program, which is offered part-time at CapU's main North Vancouver Campus, you'll take an assortment of finance courses offered by our School of Business, in preparation for your new career in financial planning.
The program is designed for people with bachelor's degrees who are looking to take the licensing exams to gain the Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) or Qualified Associate Financial Planner™ (QAFP™) designation.
Financial planners are well-compensated and in high demand, with thousands of job vacancies each year and not enough newly trained workers to replace them.

- Apply sound information gathering and quantitative reasoning skills to client recommendations using the Financial Planning Body of Knowledge (FP Canada).

Admission Requirements
English language requirements
English is the language of instruction at CapU. All applicants are required to demonstrate competence in the English language prior to admission.
If English is not your first language or you’ve received your education in a language other than English, students must produce evidence of their English Language Proficiency:
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): paper =560 internet=83, or
- International English Language Testing System (Academic IELTS)=6.5 overall, and no one score less than 6.0, or
- Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL)=70, or
- Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic)=56, or
- CapU EAP 100 and 101 with a minimum B+ grade in each course, or
- Articulated level completion from approved Pathway Partner.
Basic requirements
- Completion of an undergraduate degree from a recognized institution with a cumulative GPA (CGPA) of 2.5 or higher with preference given to students with a 3.0 or higher on their final two years of study.
