Program Highlights

Gain a background in literary history and improve your writing skills in this minor.

If you are drawn to literary worlds, cultural studies and transcendent storytelling, the Literature and Culture minor is a great addition to your degree.

In the minor, you'll have your pick from a massive set of English literature courses at CapU, with topics including pre- and post-1700 literature, Canadian and American lit, theory and criticism, world lit, children's lit and more.

Both Writing and Literature minors have an Indigenous literature requirement, which is an excellent opportunity to understand Indigenous ways of knowing, storytelling and narratives of resistance.

As you get to the 300- and 400-levels of the program, you'll choose one Words in the World and one Literary History seminar course, with additional options in everything from major authors to electronic literature, literature in media and more.

Before completing the minor, you can also broaden your skill set by taking experiential learning courses, including Writing Lives, Literary Publishing (where you'll work on The Liar, CapU's literary zine) and Teaching Writing & Literature.
