Program Highlights

Integrate an environmental sustainability approach into your degree with the Environment and Society Minor.

This minor provides an interdisciplinary, experiential approach to exploring complex, contemporary environmental issues. Courses are based on experiential learning, fieldwork and opportunities to collaborate with community partners on positive change.

You'll begin by taking ENSO 100 - Catalysts to Change, where you will learn about biodiversity, conservation, ecosystem integrity and sustainable development alongside students from the sciences, social sciences and other backgrounds for a truly interdisciplinary experience in taking awareness to action.

Next, you'll explore environmental issues in courses like environmental geography, environmental biology, ecology, ecological economics, the environment in Canadian history and environmental ethics.

Moving into the 300 and 400 levels, you will learn about ecological sustainability principles and the biosphere, including the Átl'ḵa7tsem/Howe Sound Biosphere region.

In INTS 345 - Reconciliation in Action, you'll be invited to engage in advancing reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada.

Learning about ecology and sustainability incorporates understanding from multiple perspectives and students explore how reconciliation can inform our pathways forward.

To complete the minor, you can select two more upper-level courses from the options listed in the modules for the Bachelor of Environment & Society degrees.
