Program Highlights

Add vital writing skills to your bachelor's degree with the Critical and Creative Writing Minor.

If you're looking to improve your versatility as a writer and challenge your creative thinking skills, this minor is for you.

You'll start by completing an introduction to creative writing or learning contemporary practices. Then, you'll refine your skills with course options covering areas including narrative fiction, creative nonfiction, screenwriting, and literature for young people.

Both Writing and Literature minors have an Indigenous literature requirement, which is an excellent opportunity to understand Indigenous ways of knowing, storytelling and narratives of resistance.

Moving into the 300- and 400-level, you'll choose from one of three Words in the World seminar courses, where you can explore Genre and Form, Cultures, Networks and Traditions or Critical and Creative Formations.

Wrapping up the minor, you'll continue strengthening your skills as a creative writer, with additional options in performance, special topics, advanced practice, multi-genre writing and the opportunity to break into literary publishing by working on The LiarCapU's literary zine.
