This course is a continuation of ENGL 298: Writing Lives I, in which students will continue to learn about writing styles, structures, and conventions of memoir. This course pays particular attention to methods and protocols for developing a respectful, sensitive, Survivor-centered writing relationship. Students will meet regularly in small groups with a writing partner–a residential school Survivor—in order to interview, and ultimately co-write their memoir. To this end, students will learn respectful, Survivor-centered ethical interviewing techniques with the goal of producing a single, long-form memoir project in collaboration with Survivors.
