At Capilano University, you can study Chinese, French, Japanese and Spanish. We also offer general linguistics courses, as well as courses and certificates in First Nations language and cultures, including Líl̓wat (Ucwalmícwts) and Sechelt (she shashishalhem).
Why study languages and linguistics at CapU?
Our unique approach includes lectures, conversations and multimedia labs. As part of a small class, you’ll learn in a way that mimics how we learned our mother tongue—in an intimate setting, using culturally relevant material.
Through weekly conversation classes, you’ll practice newly learned material with native speakers. You’ll find additional help and camaraderie at the Language Resource Centre, where you can hone your skills and practice at your own pace.
In linguistics courses, you will learn about how languages work, how they are acquired and how they connect us all to one another. First Nations languages at CapU support language revitalization efforts happening in Indigenous communities across B.C.
Whether it is your first time studying a new language or you wish to expand your horizons by learning an additional language, Capilano University offers exceptional classes, first-class instruction and a Language Centre with a fully equipped computer lab to make language learning an enjoyable experience.
