Family can take many different forms. This course examines the diverse ways people create, care, and clash with kin and other forms of intimate relations. From state policies that support and undermine family structures, to ideological constructions of gender roles within households, this course explores how family life is shaped by economic systems, cultural expectations, migration, capitalism, and colonialism, as well as by practices of love, conflict, and care.
