BIOL 231 - Ethnobiology

This course introduces students to the interdisciplinary field of ethnobiology. There exists a dynamic relationship among the environment, biota and people which has both historically and in contemporary times informed human language, culture and practices of resource use. This relationship will be studied through the exploration of local ecosystems, their representative species including biological and cultural keystone species and will incorporate Traditional Ecological Knowledge through the engagement of knowledge holders of local First Nations communities.
