In past years, the budget routinely addressed a forecasted shortfall. What is different this year that we have a surplus?
Strong financial management, growth in our international student enrolment, a number of programs running at full-capacity, and cost-savings related to previous budget decisions have combined to positively influence our current financial position.
The Senate Budget Advisory Committee will review the draft budget at its January 31 and February 28 meetings. The Capilano University Board of Governors will subsequently review the draft budget in February and the final draft budget at its meeting on March 14, 2017.
Funding priorities followed the guiding principles of the two strategic goals for 2017: building our operational capacity and growing the number of students attending Capilano University.
Over the next several months, budget updates are scheduled for:
- early February
Announcements of updates will be posted to Frontlines, shared through the Constant Contact system and posted to our website at 2017-2018 Budget.
Are there any opportunities to learn more about the process and priorities, before the 2017/18 budget is approved?
Yes. President Dangerfield and Jacqui Stewart, VP Finance and Administration, will be presenting a live Q&A session on the budget on February 9 from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. in the Library Building, room LB322.
