A good financial planner can make a huge difference in a client's financial future, helping them navigate investing, retirement, insurance, estate planning and other important financial decisions.
The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Financial Planning is a two-year, 13-course program designed for people who already hold an undergraduate degree and are looking to transition into the financial services industry.
Offered full-time at CapU's North Vancouver campus, the program provides the quantitative and financial foundation needed to succeed in industry entrance exams, while meeting the Core Curriculum requirements for the Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) or Qualified Associate Financial Planner™ (QAFP™) designation.
Financial planners are in demand across Canada, helping individuals and families build financial security while enjoying strong career prospects and earning potential.
Beginning each January, the program is completed over four terms, with a capstone course taken in the Spring term.

- Apply quantitative method, statistical modeling and reasoning, and the Financial Planning Body of Knowledge (FP-BoK) to analyze financial data and develop sound, evidence-based client recommendations.
- Demonstrate client-centered interpersonal skills through empathy, listening, and problem-solving that results in sensitive delivery of recommendations.
- Synthesize and communicate complex financial and quantitative analyses through clear, professional oral and written presentations appropriate to financial planning and investment contexts.
- Apply leadership, negotiation, and change management principles to navigate diverse client relationships and organizational contexts within the financial planning profession.
- Exemplify ethical and fiduciary conduct that embraces global consciousness and values the rights of all people including Indigenous Peoples.
Admission Requirements
English language requirements
English is the language of instruction at CapU. All applicants are required to demonstrate competence in the English language prior to admission.
If English is not your first language or you’ve received your education in a language other than English, students must produce evidence of their English Language Proficiency:
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): paper =560 internet=83 or an overall score of 4.5 (with no section below 4.0), or
- International English Language Testing System (Academic IELTS)=6.5 overall, and no one score less than 6.0, or
- Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL)=70, or
- Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic)=56, or
- CapU EAP 100 and 101 with a minimum B+ grade in each course, or
- Articulated level completion from approved Pathway Partner.
Basic requirements
- Completion of an undergraduate degree from a recognized institution with a cumulative GPA (CGPA) of 2.5 or higher with preference given to students with a 3.0 or higher on their final two years of study.
Admission Notes
This program is designed for international and domestic students who have an undergraduate degree and are looking to enter Canada’s financial services industry.
This program is not intended for students who have completed the Bachelor of Business Administration Financial Planning Concentration due to duplication of coursework.
