Tourism creates thousands of jobs and adds nearly $10 billion to the province's economy.
As global challenges intensify – especially those related to climate change – there is growing demand for future leaders who understand the value of developing and managing tourism responsibly. This is where a strong sustainable tourism program can make all the difference.
This two-year program is condensed into 16 months. It is designed for people with bachelor's degrees who are interested in becoming agents of positive change by advocating for sustainable tourism practices.
After completing the program, you are eligible to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) for a maximum of 3 years.
In class, you'll develop the skills to lead hospitality and tourism initiatives, balancing economic growth, cultural integrity and environmental sustainability.
You'll take courses in tourism and climate change, environmental stewardship, and food sovereignty, with additional training in policy advocacy, community engagement and ethical business management.

- Assess tourism’s potential to serve as a catalyst for social, cultural, and environmental benefit.
- Design projects that create a measurable impact in communities, destinations, or workplaces.
- Apply ethical, philosophical, and sociological frameworks to decision-making in global hospitality and tourism contexts.
- Analyze the impact of Indigenous rights, title, and land use on tourism development and operations.
- Develop strategies to integrate Indigenous foodways and knowledge systems into experiential tourism models in British Columbia.
- Establish professional and community networks through engagement with sector-specific activities.
Admission Requirements
English language requirements
English is the language of instruction at CapU. All applicants are required to demonstrate competence in the English language prior to admission.
If English is not your first language or you’ve received your education in a language other than English, students must produce evidence of their English Language Proficiency:
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): paper=540, internet=75, or
- International English Language Testing System (Academic IELTS)=6.0 overall, and no one score less than 5.5 and a min score of 6.0 in writing, or
- Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL)=60, or
- Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic)=53, or
- Capilano University EAP 090 with a minimum B+ grade, or
- Articulated level completion from approved Pathway Partner.
New TOEFL scores currently under review. We will continue to accept results reported under the former scale for this specific program.
Basic requirements
- Completion of an undergraduate degree from a recognized institution with a cumulative GPA (CGPA) of 2.0 or higher with preference given to students with a 2.5 or higher on the final two years of study
