Capilano University is celebrating an exciting milestone as Jasper Fleming, a student in Interdisciplinary Studies at CapU Squamish, prepares to make his Olympic debut in biathlon at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.

Fleming, who balances elite athletic training with his academic studies, will represent Canada on the world’s biggest sporting stage in one of the Games’ most demanding winter disciplines. Biathlon combines cross-country skiing and precision rifle shooting, requiring exceptional endurance, focus and resilience—qualities Fleming has demonstrated throughout his athletic and academic journey.

“Jasper’s achievement is a powerful example of what’s possible when passion, discipline and education come together,” said Brian Storey, associate vice-president, Squamish. “As someone who has experienced the Olympic Games firsthand, I know the level of commitment it takes to reach this stage, and we’re incredibly proud to see a CapU student competing at the Olympic level.”

Storey competed for Canada in the men’s 470 sailing event at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, bringing a personal understanding of the demands and significance of Olympic competition.

Based at the Squamish campus, Fleming’s Interdisciplinary Studies program has allowed him to tailor his education around his training and competition schedule, reflecting CapU’s commitment to flexible, student-centred learning.

Fans can check out the official biathlon competition schedule at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games, with competition beginning on Feb. 8, starting with the mixed 4x6km relay event.

As the Milano Cortina 2026 Games get underway, the CapU community will be cheering Fleming on as he takes his place among the world’s top biathletes and makes his mark on the Olympic stage.
