News release: Capilano University furthers plans for land purchase in Squamish BC (PDF)

North Vancouver B.C. March 17, 2022 – Delivering high quality post-secondary education in Squamish is a standing priority for Capilano University. After exploring a number of options to re-establish fulsome programming in the Sea-to-Sky region, the University is pleased to confirm it has entered into a purchase agreement with Oceanfront Squamish.

The University will pay $5 million for the purchase of two (2) acres of waterfront property in the Oceanfront Squamish development. As well, the University is exploring a financing plan for improvements to the bordering foreshore area and road construction to enable access to the property.

“This is an exciting step forward towards realizing our priority of delivering relevant high-quality educational programming in Squamish, for the benefit of communities along the Sea-to-Sky corridor,” says Paul Dangerfield, president of Capilano University. “Education is an integral part of any thriving community. We believe that our range of programs and commitment to strong community partnerships makes for an excellent foundation for CapU’s return to Squamish.”

Creating high-value, in-person experiences is a core aspect of CapU’s identity. Design plans for the Squamish campus, a purpose-built hub of higher education, are in the very preliminary stages. The timing of the agreement allows CapU the opportunity to choose its preferred site location in the 100-acre mixed-use development incorporating new homes, businesses, industries and green spaces.

Capilano University is committed to ongoing engagement with the community and regular updates on this major project as developments unfold.
