North Vancouver B.C. February 26, 2021 – CapU Lonsdale, Capilano University’s satellite location in The Shipyards building on North Vancouver’s waterfront, has received an Award of Excellence from the international Architectural Wood Institute (AWI). The AWI’s respected Award of Excellence program distinguishes the finest examples of custom architectural woodwork projects in North America.

The AWI acknowledges the efforts of the architects, design professionals and woodwork manufacturers behind outstanding examples of architectural woodwork today. CapU Lonsdale is the result of collaborative work involving architectural design by Dialog, woodwork by Cn Architectural Millwork and Construction and construction by Turner Construction.

“With a vision of bringing the forest and natural environment into the building, our design team created an award winning concept that we are very proud of today,” said Kenny Fung, associate director of planning and projects at Capilano University. “We are pleased to see this award recognize each of our project partners for their contribution to the design and construction of CapU Lonsdale.”

The design of CapU Lonsdale was inspired by the natural environment surrounding the University’s main campus and the history of The Shipyards building in Lower Lonsdale. With intricate floating wood leaf skeleton panels suspended from the ceiling as the hallmark design feature, the facility also includes design elements inspired by a First Nations longhouse and aspects of the natural environment.

CapU Lonsdale’s award-winning design is featured in the Winter 2021 issue of AWI’s Design Solutions magazine.
