Capilano University announces next chancellor: Yuri Fulmer

Capilano University is pleased to announce Yuri Fulmer, OBC, will become the fourth chancellor of Capilano University in June 2020.

As the chairman of Fulmer & Company Investments, Yuri Fulmer is widely recognized for his financial acumen and entrepreneurialism. His career has been distinguished by successful leadership in financial and not-for-profit endeavours as well as generous support for a wide range of initiatives, communities and causes.

"Capilano University's commitment to communities resonates deeply with me," says Fulmer. "We are living in unprecedented times when caring for each other holds the greatest of possibilities for our shared future. I'm humbled by the honour and responsibility that the Chancellor carries and grateful for the opportunity to serve CapU in this role."

Fulmer studied political science at the University of British Columbia before turning his energies to business pursuits and civic service. His 25-year professional career progressed from A&W drive-thru attendant to restaurant manager to franchise holder as he began to build what would become a portfolio worth more than $60 million by the time he was 30 years old.

Born in Perth, Australia, Fulmer now makes his home in West Vancouver. He is the recipient of numerous awards and recognition including the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Spirit of Vancouver Award and the Order of British Columbia.

Certified by the Institute of Corporate Directors, Fulmer is a past chair of the board of BC Ferries and currently chairs the Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society and United Way Centraide Canada. He has served as a director on a host of corporate and not-for-profit boards including the Vancouver Foundation, Vancouver Opera, the Surrey Food Bank and BlueShore Financial. As chancellor, Fulmer will also serve on both Capilano University's Senate and Board of Governors.

Fulmer's investiture as chancellor takes place at 11 a.m., June 18, 2020 and will be shared as a live broadcast on Capilano University's website: . The investiture is scheduled in advance of the University's June convocation that day, where Chancellor Fulmer will preside over the University's first virtual convocation ceremony and confer credentials upon the graduands.

Fulmer succeeds David Fung, who served as chancellor of Capilano University between April of 2016 and June of 2020.
