Today, Capilano University joins organizations and communities nationwide to respectfully recognize Trans Day of Remembrance. We take this time to honour the memory of transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence, and to draw attention to those who have faced violence, discrimination and oppression due to transphobia.

The University is committed to respecting, fostering and supporting diversity, equity and inclusion. This commitment requires each of us to reflect on how we can better support trans individuals on campus and in our communities.

We acknowledge the work that still needs to be done. In an effort to practice more care in the language we use to describe gender identities and experiences, we encourage members of the CapU community to take the opportunity to review: The Radical Copyeditor’s Style Guide for Writing About Transgender People by Alex Kapitan.

Sincerely,

Paul Dangerfield
President
