Daniel Hersog Jazz Orchestra featuring Darynn Dean
A fascinating big-band experience with powerful vocals.
Vancouver trumpeter and composer Daniel Hersog leads an adventurous jazz orchestra comprised of the cream of the Vancouver jazz community. All About Jazz calls Hersog “a major new compositional voice in jazz,” while Jazz Times notes his writing is “directly in the lineage of great jazz composers like Gil Evans.”
This performance features guest vocalist Darynn Dean, who studied with Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter and brings a commanding, soulful presence. Dean has sung alongside Hubert Laws, Poncho Sanchez, and Les McCann and has performed at Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival, Kennedy Center and Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Together, Hersog and Dean deliver a thrilling big-band experience, blending sophisticated orchestral arrangements with expressive, powerful vocals—a performance for long-time jazz fans and new audiences alike. Hersog’s 18-member orchestra features Brad Turner, Steve Kaldestad, Bruno Hubert, James Danderfer and Bernie Arai.
This concert is part of North Shore Jazz (June 19-28), presented by BlueShore at CapU in partnership with Vancouver International Jazz Festival.
