CapU Choirs: In the Same Room
Songs in conversation across time and place.
CapU Choirs' In the Same Room concert is an immersive choral experience where voices inspired by Baroque, Indigenous, Persian, Indian, popular and jazz music meet in conversation.
Conductor and Artistic Director: Dr. Hussein Janmohamed, faculty member in the Capilano University Music Diploma Program.
Featured Guest Artists: Santoor virtuoso Saina Khaledi; tabla virtuoso Sunny Matharu; jazz/Hindustani singer Shruti Ramani (leader of Raagaverse); and pianist Edmund Lau Sing (1st Year student winner of the Music Diploma performance competition) bring their vibrant musical traditions alongside the CapU Choral Ensemble and Campus Choir to reimagine the choral stage.
Inspired by the words of Stó:lō Elder Lee Maracle – that we must be in the same room to create a shared future – this concert invites audiences into a musical space where different voices meet and transform together. In a world where differences often divide, In the Same Room offers a powerful reminder of music’s ability to unite.
