On June 25, Capilano University (CapU) joined the City of North Vancouver and regional partners in signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to advance a Health Innovation District in Central Lonsdale.

The initiative brings together organizations across health care, education, research, business and technology to improve community health outcomes while supporting innovation and economic development.

For CapU, the partnership builds on its role as the North Shore's university, connecting education, applied research and community partnerships to regional priorities.

"As we are the North Shore's university, Capilano University is proud to join the City and our partners in advancing this unique opportunity to connect health care, education, research and industry," said Jason Dewling, PhD, president of Capilano University. "We are committed to contributing our strengths in teaching, applied research and workforce development to improve health outcomes and drive lasting community and economic impact."

The Health Innovation District will be centred in Central Lonsdale, anchored by Lions Gate Hospital and supported by a growing network of health-related organizations and services. Partners will work together on initiatives in prevention and wellness, recreation and rehabilitation, and digital health innovation.

For CapU, the partnership will create opportunities for student learning, applied research and workforce development while strengthening collaboration with health-care providers, industry and community organizations.

With the MOU now in place, partners will begin establishing governance, identifying funding opportunities and developing initial projects.
