Board of Governors re-elects board executive and welcomes newly elected members
The Capilano University Board of Governors is pleased to announce the results of the recent board election. The results include the re-election of Rabjeet (RJ) Singh Wallia as board chair for a one-year term. RJ was re-elected by acclamation at the board's annual election meeting and will continue to provide leadership to the board in the coming year.
RJ has served on the board since July 31, 2023, and previously served as vice-chair before being elected chair. A Capilano University alumnus and accomplished legal professional, RJ brings extensive governance, leadership and community experience to the role.
The board also re-elected Shelley Frost and Amina El Mantari as vice-chairs by acclamation for one-year terms. Both will continue supporting the board's governance responsibilities and strategic priorities in the year ahead.
Shelley has served on the board since July 31, 2024, and brings extensive executive leadership experience through her role as president and CEO of the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE). Amina, a Capilano University alumna, has served on the board since July 31, 2024, and contributes valuable experience in governance, risk oversight and community engagement.
Newly elected members
The board is also pleased to welcome Karan Deep Nain and Harjoban Gill, who were elected as the student representation for one-year term ending July 31, 2027.
Karan and Harjoban bring significant experience in student leadership, governance and advocacy to the board. Karan, a fourth-year psychology student, previously served on the Capilano Students' Union Board of Directors as accessibility justice coordinator and chaired both the finance and governance committees, gaining extensive experience in institutional governance, budgeting and student representation. Harjoban, a third-year Legal Studies student and elected student member of the Capilano University Senate, has demonstrated a strong commitment to governance, policy development and student advocacy through her leadership roles across the university community.
The board looks forward to the valuable perspectives and contributions they will bring in supporting effective governance and advancing the university's strategic priorities.
