Christian McBride and Ursa Major
Relocated from The Centre For the Performing Arts.
Christian McBride is an eleven-time Grammy-winning bassist, composer, and bandleader. In the jazz community, McBride is widely considered one of the best bassists of his generation. McBride has performed and recorded with a huge number of jazz legends, including Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, Roy Haynes and Chick Corea, as well as with newer musicians like Joshua Redman, Nicholas Payton, Benny Green and Sting. McBride is known for his equal facility at playing pizzicato and with the bow. McBride primarily plays upright bass, but is also adept on the electric bass.
Whether behind the bass or away from it, McBride is always part of the music. He is the artistic director of the historic Newport Jazz Festival, a respected educator and advocate for youth and host of NPR’s “Jazz Night in America.” From jazz to R&B, and pop/rock and hip-hop/neo-soul to classical, he is a luminary with one hand ever reaching for new heights, and the other extended in fellowship—inviting us to join him.
In Ursa Major, he is joined by four rising young master instrumentalists including saxophonist Nicole Glover, guitarist Ely Perlman, pianist Mike King, and drummer Savannah Harris.
Opening the show is Vancouver’s Arvind Ramdas Quintet.
Presented by Modo Live and Infidels Jazz, this show has been relocated to BlueShore at CapU from The Centre For Performing Arts.
