Schedule for the Spring 2024 term:

Do you want to speak more clearly and smoothly in your oral presentations and class discussions? What gives English its particular “musical rhythm,” and why is this important when communicating and listening?

In this workshop, you will learn which words to highlight and link together so that your message is conveyed accurately, clearly and effectively!

Do you feel a bit shy expressing your opinions in class and group discussions?

In this fun and active workshop, students will learn about the different “hats” (roles) people wear in group discussions and how to be an active participant. Students will be given a variety of thought-provoking topics to discuss and debate in their group.

Find out how to make your sentences interesting and varied.

Learn how to avoid common sentence structure errors such fragments, comma splices, lack of parallel structure, and awkward constructions.

By the end of this workshop, students will learn how to create strong sentences and punctuate them correctly!

In this workshop, students will learn how to write a strong and cohesive paragraph. Topics covered include effective topic sentences, incorporating evidence smoothly and strategies for strengthening paragraph cohesion.

When writing assignments, students are often asked to include evidence from their course work, books, journals and other sources.

In this workshop, students will learn strategies on how to paraphrase or quote sources correctly to avoid plagiarism. Students will also learn when quoting a source is appropriate and when it isn’t.

Build your confidence in public speaking by learning what makes a good presentation, how to interact with an audience, and how to prepare for questions.

At the end of the workshop, participants will get a chance to practice what they have learned.
