The annual Alumni Awards of Excellence were created to recognize and celebrate CapU alumni who are making positive contributions to their communities.
Five awards will be given to individuals who inspire and have positively contributed to their communities, one for each CapU brand attribute that makes CapU a remarkable space to thrive: Open, Expressive, Dedicated, Relevant and Enterprising.

Meet your emcee for the evening
Gigi Saul Guerrero
Gigi Saul Guerrero is a Mexican genre director/filmmaker and actress praised as one of the top emerging directors in the horror genre by Empire, Dread Central, Fangoria, IGN and Bloody Disgusting. Guerrero is co-founder of Luchagore Productions in Vancouver, Canada.
Born and raised in Mexico City, also known by fans as “La Muñeca del Terror,” Guerrero was described by Variety and L’Attitude Latinx as part of the new wave of Latino talent and scored a first-look deal with Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions. Guerrero graduated with honours from Vancouver’s Capilano University Bosa Centre for Film and Animation, earning a Bachelor of Motion Picture Arts and is a past 2022 Alumni Award of Excellence recipient. Guerrero came back strong in Summer 2025 with a viral sensation for Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” campaign, El Lazo de Petra, where she wrote and directed a 11-minute short film that hit 90 million views.
Her feature debut, Culture Shock, for Blumhouse Productions Television, won Best Primetime Movie at the Imagen Awards and remains 100per cent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Guerrero is busy directing across all platforms and now has three features, 16 award-winning short films, as well as television and audio episodics, to name a few. She directed the biopic project Jenni, based on the life of Mexican-American superstar Jenni Rivera, which was produced by Donald DeLine and Mucho Mas.
