Program Highlights

The North American Business Management Applied Post Baccalaureate Diploma (NABU Applied) builds knowledge about how to do business in North America for students from around the world.

International students and new permanent residents with an undergraduate degree completed outside of Canada can gain both North American business credentials and practical hands-on work experience in a North American organization.

Concentrations are available in marketing, human resources, international strategy & entrepreneurship and finance & investment.

This full-time program is offered in an accelerated format and includes a work placement practicum.

  • Conduct research and strategic analysis to make effective business decisions in preparation for a managerial level career within North American, specifically Canadian, profit and non-profit organizations.
  • Demonstrate financial competency through the implementation of financial, marketing, operational, and HR strategies for North American organizations.
  • Exemplify North American approaches to diversity and inclusiveness, teamwork and collaboration, and social responsibility and ethics in business situations.
  • Apply digital technology and communication tools to access, utilize, integrate, analyze data; evaluate information and construct new knowledge; and communicate with others.
  • Communicate both orally and in writing in clear, concise, effective, audience and purpose-specific English.
  • Integrate and apply North American business knowledge and skills through a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience.

Admission Requirements

English language requirements

English is the language of instruction at CapU. All applicants are required to demonstrate competence in the English Language prior to admission.

Students must produce evidence of their English Language Proficiency:

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): paper =560 internet=83, or
  • English Language Assessment (ELA)=145, or
  • International English Language Testing System (Academic IELTS)=6.5 overall, and no one score less than 6.0, or
  • Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL)=70, or
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic)=56, or
  • CapU EAP 100 and 101 with a minimum B+ grade in each course, or
  • from approved pathway partner.

Basic requirements

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree from a recognized institution with a cumulative GPA (CGPA) of 2.5 or higher with preference given to students with a 3.0 or higher on their final two years of study

  • Students with backgrounds other than business degrees, economics degrees or the equivalent will be required to complete a Business Essentials course

Admission Notes

This program is not designed for students who have completed the Capilano University Bachelor of Business Administration degree as this is a duplication of coursework.

Marketing Concentration: CMNS 305, BADM 318, and 6.00 credits from the following: any 300 or 400-level BMKT course (except BMKT 401, 405, 408), or IBUS 357; or

Human Resources Concentration: NABU 330, NABU 334, and 6.00 credits from the following: BADM 305, BADM 332, BADM 329, BADM 382, BADM 466, or BADM 475; or

International Strategy and Information Management Concentration: NABU 404, BADM 318, and 6.00 credits from the following: BADM 465, BCPT 305, BCPT 404, or any 300 or 400-level IBUS course (except IBUS 340, 405, 434); or

Finance and Investment Concentration: NABU 320, NABU 470, and 6.00 credits from the following: NABU 340, BFIN 306, BFIN 321, BFIN 341, BFIN 342, BFIN 353, BFIN 386, or BFIN 486
