We offer highly motivated students the opportunity to design their own degrees. Liberal Studies students build their degrees around their own interests, passions, and career aspirations.
This multidisciplinary degree cultivates thoughtful, articulate and resourceful graduates who are able to make meaningful connections between areas of investigation as varied as the economy and aesthetics, art history and genetic engineering, and the environment
During your first two years, your coursework will include the Liberal Studies Core curriculum and foundational courses in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Pure & Applied Sciences. This foundation will prepare you for the sustained critical inquiries and
focused research projects central to your upper-level coursework.
At all levels classes are kept small to encourage discussion and debate. Each term, the Liberal Studies Core curriculum and upper-level degree courses explore a common topic such as sustainability, security or revolution. This gives you the opportunity to examine topical issues from different perspectives.
In third year, you will begin your Liberal Studies Tutorials. The Liberal Studies Tutorials and Graduating Project provide you with an opportunity to develop your own research and/or creative project from a variety of perspectives. The topics explored in your
Tutorials will become the basis of your Graduating Project and a rather impressive portfolio piece. In short, the Liberal Studies BA offers a personal and purposeful approach to learning.
This program is open to both full- and part-time students.
