    Working Alone

    • Per WorkSafe BC regulation, any employee who works alone or in isolation must have a regular, written "check-in" procedure established by his/her supervisor/manager in consultation with the worker involved. This also includes any Faculty, Staff or Administrator working alone in his/her office at night or on weekends. 

      Similarly, employees travelling alone to work assignments, conferences or workshops should check-in with their direct supervisor (via e-mail or phone) to confirm safe arrival at destination and again upon return. To implement a "check-in" procedure for any employees working alone, please review and complete the steps outlined in the following documents:

      Studying Alone

      Students studying outside of regular university hours should have a buddy system in place with at least two people present. This is only acceptable for students in programs with approved late night permission agreements.
