Program Highlights

The Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate program provides training in traditional administrative skills and legal procedures. You'll learn about civil and family litigation, wills and probate, corporate law, conveyancing and mortgaging from instructors with backgrounds in the legal industry.

Email legalstudies@capilanou.ca today to start your application for the September 2020 intake.

The School of Legal Studies team will help you with your application, ensuring you know which documents are required and how to complete our admissions testing. Space is limited – Apply before Aug. 1 to start in September!

CapU's Legal Administrative Assistant program has two ways to study: a full-time onsite option, and a part-time online option. The full-time onsite option is two terms long and there are two intakes, one in September and one in January.

The full-time onsite option offers in-class tutorials and hands-on training with software and books used in the legal industry. The part-time online option is six terms long (two years) and there is one intake in September. This program option offers the same training as the onsite option, but in an online format and with just two courses per term (not including the practicum in the final term).

You'll also gain real-world experience through a two-week practicum placement in a private law firm or government agency.

  • Apply communication, problem solving and conflict resolution skills towards an organization’s overall effectiveness.
  • Effectively communicate in writing by composing business correspondence and legal documents.
  • Demonstrate proficiency working with IBM compatible software to produce a variety of correctly formatted legal documents from written and digitally recorded material.
  • Apply analytical skills to correctly identify and prepare documents for litigation, Wills creation and probating, Family Law, Corporate Law, Securities and basic conveyancing.
  • Demonstrate computation skills through the creation of legal accounts and Vendor’s and Purchaser’s statements of adjustment.
  • Demonstrate appropriate work ethic and entry-level job skills during a two week practicum placement with a law firm or government agency.
