Why study engineering at Capilano University?

Capilano University is recognized provincially for producing high-quality engineering transfer students. Our programs integrate chemistry, computing science, mathematics and physics through lectures, tutorials, laboratories and hands-on projects. 

You’ll develop high-level critical thinking and analysis skills, in high demand in today’s technical world. Our grads transfer to major BC universities to complete their engineering bachelor’s degrees.

Our programs include laboratory work beginning from the first term, which helps you establish a vital portfolio of skills. You’ll learn techniques that include how to collect, analyze and interpret data, draw sound conclusions and communicate the results.

Engineering microcredentials

Even if you're not an engineering student, you can gain important STEM skills in three one-credit engineering microcredentials

These courses — focusing on computer-aided design (CAD), 3D printing and engineering project management — are an excellent booster for students who are looking to add a scientific new element to their degree or diploma. 

Careers paths and further education

CapU’s engineering graduates who meet the GPA requirements are guaranteed entry to UBC to complete their bachelor’s degree. You may also opt for engineering programs at UVic or SFU, among others.

An engineering education opens doors to a rewarding and potentially lucrative career. Engineers can specialize in different disciplines ranging from civil, chemical or mechanical, to biomedical, geological, electrical or software engineering.

Many successful leaders have engineering backgrounds, with some becoming CEOs of major companies.

Engineering programs

Both of CapU's engineering programs offer a transfer guarantee with the University of British Columbia (UBC) if completed in the specified time frame and with the specified minimum GPA. See transfer details on the UBC website

Engineering certificate

This one-year program is for recent high school graduates who meet the prerequisite requirements for first year engineering, which includes Pre-Calculus 12, Chemistry 12, English 12, and Physics 12. It’s equivalent to the common first year of engineering at UBC. 

Engineering transition diploma

This two-year program provides mature students – or recent high school graduates who lack the prerequisites for entry into a traditional engineering program – a pathway to obtain an applied science degree, en route to becoming professional engineers.
