Instructor - School of Communication

Kym Stewart holds a Ph.D. in Education from Simon Fraser University.  Her thesis research looks at media education, specifically issues regarding 'how' it could be developed and implemented.  This question was explored through an auto-ethnography and metissage-based thesis spanning decades of research in the media studies field including a research role in the SFU Media Analysis Laboratory where she studied the role of media in Canadian families lives; specifically the role of advertising on young children's imaginative play, sedentary lifestyles and aggression.  She also spent one year in South Korea conducting research on Korean youth gaming and PC-Bang culture, and numerous years working with various school districts on teacher-training and implementation of media education programs.
