Asel recently joined Capilano University coming from the employment services sector. Asel has 4 years of direct experience working with professional immigrants in a government funded program. She excelled at providing employment counselling, support and guidance to more than 2,000 job seekers. Asel has helped her clients’ transition careers or achieve their professional goals by creating and following through with their career and action plans, setting goals, and adjusting to their new workplaces. Some of the main areas Asel supported her clients with ranged from applying effective job search strategies, creating eye-catching resumes and cover letters, practicing successful interviewing techniques, and creating a professional network. Asel worked with clients in one-on-one sessions and in groups through workshops.
Previously, Asel worked as a Corporate and Media Relations Officer for 10 years at one of the world’s largest Canadian based gold mining companies. She brought her solid knowledge and extensive experience in administration and public relations to the role. Asel also worked for the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) gaining a better understanding of the Ministry’s services and social work. Asel speaks 3 languages: English, Russian and Kyrgyz. She enjoys working with people and always takes the opportunity to learn something new, especially cultural and historical aspects where her personal interests are.
