The theme for Black History Month in the USA is designated each year by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASAALH) . “Black Health and Wellness”, the theme of 2022, focuses on contributions of Black medical scholars, health care providers, and health outcomes to society.

In Canada, the theme is “February and Forever: Celebrating Black History today and every day.” Our focus is on expanding our thoughts and action to celebrate year-round the excellence and achievement of members of the African diaspora across Canada, including those in the medical and healthcare professions.

With both themes in mind, we recognize and celebrate the many contributions that Black community members make at Capilano University every day. These contributions are an integral part of what makes the University community a more vibrant place. As Black History Month concludes this year, we renew our collective and ongoing commitment to making Capilano University a learning and working environment for members of the Black community to see themselves represented in our interactions, culture, spaces, leadership and curriculum.
